The Mystic and The Mage

I’ve been studying spells for as long as I can remember—whether it was practicing “ninja moves” with my cousins on the trampoline, casting my first Fireball in a D&D campaign, or running Magic: The Gathering events at local game stores. Over the years, I’ve organized and hosted in-person and esports tournaments, judged competitive events at stores and conventions, and built a community around tabletops with the mission to bring people together through gaming.

And so, The Mystic & The Mage was summoned. Really, it’s just me—Sam—doing what I love and what I’ve become known for in the Treasure Valley. But now, it’s under a flashy new banner, on a bigger scale, with bigger prizes, and a little support from adventurers like you. 💜

My mission has always been to bring people together through gaming, and The Mystic & The Mage is how I plan to continue doing that, if not a bit more sustainably than I have been over the last few years. Whether you’re joining me as a Tabaxi rogue led around by a talking vorpal sword, a planeswalker, a dungeon master, or just as a friend—I’m grateful to have you along for this uncharted new adventure!

Gem State CEDH

Gem State CEDH is the first “Legendary action” I’m taking this year. After welcoming the cEDH community into the All About Games fold, there’s been an obvious demand for something bigger than just a weekly tournament, and I’ve been itching to do something outside of the store for a long, long time. I’ve come together with a few leaders in the cEDH and gaming communities to present to you our first premiere event: the Gem State cEDH: Spring Summoning!

On March 22nd, the Spring Summoning will kickoff the first of many Gem State cEDH events. We’ve managed to scrape together a pretty healthy prize pool, and we’ll be giving away just over $1000 in prizing. In addition, everyone has the chance to win one of the random raffle items at the beginning of each round, which include Secret Lairs, sick full-art lands, an exclusive playmat, and other magical relics!

Spots are limited, and competition will be fierce — so don’t wait! Secure your entry early to be a part of Treasure Valley’s first major cEDH event, and watch the prize pool reveals as we get closer to the date!

Playtest Nights

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Legacy and cEDH events at All About Games are playtest-friendly!

With the somewhat sudden and highly controversial ban announcement in September 2024, came a wave of renewed interest in “proxy-friendly” events in the Treasure Valley — several players felt the hit to their coin purses as a good chunk of their collection’s value was suddenly made…much less valuable.

And so, Playtest Nights were born! As one of the biggest supporters of keeping Magic: the Gathering accessible, and encouraging new formats, new friends, and — of course — new events, Sam organized the first rounds of “Paranormal Proxy Nights” at All About Games in October to test the waters, and it has since turned into the weekly collaboration between herself (The Mystic and The Mage) and All About Games.
